Ornament Branding
Project Overview
In 2020, I embarked on a student project to develop branding elements for Ornament, a fictional company that specializes in creating scarf collections where classic meets modern. Ornament aims to showcase the increasing value of classic designs over time, drawing inspiration from ancient symbols, particularly the Antemion ornament used by the Greeks and Egyptians. The project's goal was to create a logo proposal, business cards, label tags, stationery, and packaging that reflect the company's dedication to classic elegance and timeless beauty.
Objectives
The main objectives were to:
- Develop a cohesive brand identity that blends classical elements with a modern aesthetic.
- Create a logo that symbolizes the company's inspiration from ancient ornaments.
- Design business cards, label tags, stationery, and packaging that embody the beauty of classic motifs and the company’s elegant color palette.
Role and Contributions
As the sole designer on this project, my responsibilities included:
- Conducting research on ancient ornaments and classical design elements.
- Conceptualizing and designing the brand identity.
- Creating all required branding elements, including the logo, business cards, label tags, stationery, and packaging
Design Process
1. Research and Concept Development
The project began with thorough research into classical ornaments, specifically the Antemion, a motif commonly found in Greek and Egyptian art. Understanding its historical significance and visual characteristics was crucial in creating a logo that accurately represents the company's ethos.
2. Visual Identity
Logo
The logo design prominently features the Antemion ornament, stylized to reflect both its historical roots and a modern touch. Thin lines and symmetrical patterns were used to maintain the elegance and sophistication.
Color Palette
The logo incorporates a refined color palette that aligns with the company’s products. Delicate and muted tones were chosen to convey a sense of timeless elegance and sophistication.
Typography
A sans-serif typeface was chosen for its minimalism, enhancing the brand's elegance. Consistent typography across all elements ensured a unified visual identity.
3. Branding Elements
Business Cards
The business cards were designed to reflect the company's classic yet modern aesthetic. The Antemion logo was prominently featured, with the delicate color palette and serif typeface ensuring a sophisticated look.
Label Tags
The label tags included the logo and were designed to be simple yet elegant.
Stationery
The stationery set was designed with a clean layout, incorporating the Antemion ornament and the company's color palette. This created a professional and cohesive look, suitable for formal communication.
Packaging
The packaging design for the scarves was created to enhance the unboxing experience. Incorporating the Antemion ornament, the packaging emphasized the luxurious and timeless nature of the products. The design was minimalistic yet elegant, ensuring that the packaging itself felt like a part of the product.
Outcome
The branding project for Ornament successfully created a cohesive and elegant brand identity that merges classical elements with modern aesthetics. The use of the Antemion ornament, delicate color palette, and refined typography effectively conveyed the company’s dedication to timeless beauty and sophistication.
